How to Converse With an Idiot

In life, you will run into many people who seem to have genuinely interesting opinions and well thought out arguments to get across a point, and then there are those that don't. You know the type, the one sided completely close minded steadfast idiot. Here are a few tips on how to take these bastards down with minimum fuss to you and your busy schedule.

  • Avoid at all cost
Okay this first one is a bit of a no-brainer but it's still very important. The best course of action is to avoid dealing with ignorant individuals by completely shutting out all they have to say from entering your ears.
  • Don't let what they say get to you
So avoiding them didn't work, and you accidentally heard what one of them said. Imagine your
standing in line at the bank and you hear the two people behind you say "You know what, I'm
pretty sure that if Obama were American, he'd release a birth certificate." now, you should probably
be fighting past that feeling of wanting to choke them and plan on formulating your statement. Stop!
This is the wrong course of action. Stop thinking about it, forget about the people standing behind you
and continue on your path, this way you miss out on there stimulating conversation and save time!

  • Assault them with your superior intellect
So plan B didn't work, perhaps the other added something along the lines of "Yeah! and I'm pretty sure he's a Muslim also." now you have to get involved. This is a serious problem for you and your well being. Give a short blunt blow to the assailants and hopefully they'll be
immobilized by your words. NOTE: do not do this if you have to see the person on a regular basis.

  • Remember that you are better than them
This step is to be used when the offenders attempt to argue back. Just sit back, relax, and
remember that you're just a better person and have a much happier and more fruitful life than
they do. At this point you can simply state back "I'm happier than you" and end the conversation
or simply...
  • Walk off
leave. Plain and simple. say nothing and just leave. If you've followed step 4 correctly you'll be thinking
about how amazing your life is and how little this person means to you.

George's Advice

I'm here to give you guys advice. In the future, create a magazine with a specific topic, global news provides a lot of options, but most of our stories are focused on local topics, and most newsworthy articles of global importance have already been thoroughly reported on. News organizations reporting globally need to have a lot of resources, such as this place www.newsdesk.org, and class groups won't have all this. Also, listen to people, really listen. If I hadn't listened to my mom's friend Edie in the past, I wouldn't have remembered her career, and wouldn't have been to able to do my feature story on her organization. I got to do my feature story on Earth Share this way, which is this -www.earthshare-texas.org

Also, go to Barton Springs alot.

George's April 7th Post

I typed up the transcript of my interview over the weekend with Edie Muehlberger. I have a lot of information and quotes from her that I can put into my Feature Story. I have also edited my first ASF, so hopefully it looks a lot better now. I've asked people about their opinions on it and they all said it looks better, but that's pretty much it.

Timothy Timmerman

For my piece on the price and conservation of water I would like to include an interview with Timothy Timmerman, the board chair of the LCRA, and lives in Travis county. Mr.Timmerman has served on the LCRA board since 2008, and was appointed chair by Governor Rick Perry last January. His term will last 2 more years. As board chair he would be qualified and knowledgeable enough to regulate, maintain, and observe a water supply of a large metropolitan area. He would have information relevant to my article because he would know about the levels of water supply in our area, as well as the usage, and possibly price. Mr. Timmerman would know what methods of water conservation are succesful, and why people use or do not use water. This all ties into the subject of my article, having to do with water price, in terms of usage rates, availability, and supply.

Feature Story

For my feature story, I would like to interview the owner (or employee) of a firing range off of 290. I have yet to contact this person, and am unsure as to his willingness to participate (or my safety). I will still need to look into this more, seeing as how the owner may not be willing to participate in the interview. However, after a quick google map search, I have discovered that there are many gun stores in the Austin area, and I'm sure that if I'm persistent enough I can get an interview out of one of them. It'll be interesting to get a perspective from someone who is obviously a gun enthusiast and requires the legality of firearms for a large part of their income. This will provide an interesting contrast my position of banning firearms.

George's March 9th Post

Spring break is almost here, that's pretty good. My group has finished our ASF's, and are still waiting to conference with Ms.Richey. Today we completed the Unit 2 1st Quiz and voted on Corey Dillard's pick up lines list.

March is Here

I am so glad it is March. I've always liked this month a lot. It has great weather, it is the beginning of the spring, I also feel like it's the very beginning of the end of the year, there is spring break, and my birthday is the 22nd. I hope you all can join in my appreciation of March.
Thanks, and goodbye - George
